“Today I become a grown up.” – Grey’s Anatomy

This has always been my favorite speech. I was watching Grey’s Anatomy this afternoon and once again the episode with this fantastic graduation speech was on and it really stuck with me.

“Today’s the day my life begins. Today I become a citizen of the world. Today I become a grown up. Today I become accountable to someone other than myself and my parents. Accountable for more than my grades. Today, I become accountable to the world. To the future. To all the possibilities that life has to offer. Starting today, my job is to show up wide eyed and willing and ready. For what, I don’t know. For anything. For everything. To take on life. To take on love. To take on the responsibility and possibility. Today, my friends, our lives begin. And, I for one can’t wait.”

It just makes me think of the next steps son is taking, that we will be sharing in the journey. Just made me think. Almost like it was meant for me to see today. Today .. when are down to 20 days.

Day 38 .. Best Laid plans

Best laid plans ... I had every intention of going back to blogging at the first of the year. Well here we are day 38 of 2015 and just now making first post. I plan on getting better at posting. I am going to need some place to put feelings out there. For the next 5 months. Big changes. It will be okay. Yes, tonight I sit and breathing is the best I can do.

So until time comes .. here is the first of many blogs for 2015!

Cha .. cha ... changes ..

(I dislike this new setup I tried forever to add picture and failed.)

Rocky Road Brownies

Rocky Road Brownies

Ingredients
Makes 16
1/2 cup (1 stick) unsalted butter, cut into pieces, plus more for pan
1 bag (12 ounces) semisweet chocolate chips
1/2 cup granulated sugar
1/2 cup packed light-brown sugar
1/2 teaspoon salt
2 large eggs
3/4 cup all-purpose flour (spooned and leveled)
1 cup miniature marshmallows
1/2 cup chopped nuts, such as cashews, pecans, or walnuts

Directions

Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Butter an 8-inch-square baking pan. Line bottom with parchment paper, leaving an overhang on two sides; butter paper.

In a heatproof bowl set over (not in) a saucepan of simmering water, combine butter and 1 cup chocolate chips. Heat, stirring occasionally, just until melted, 3 to 5 minutes.

Remove mixture from heat; stir in sugars and salt, then eggs, and finally flour, stirring just until combined. Spread batter evenly in prepared pan. Bake until a toothpick inserted in center comes out with moist crumbs attached, 30 to 35 minutes.

Remove from oven, and sprinkle with remaining chocolate chips, then marshmallows and nuts. Bake until chocolate is shiny and marshmallows are puffed, about 5 minutes. Cool completely in pan. Using paper overhang, lift cake onto a work surface; cut into 16 squares.

Helpful Hint
To prevent toppings from sinking into the batter, sprinkle them on after brownies are baked. An extra 5 minutes in the oven melts the topping together for easy slicing.

What's My Motivation?

What's My Motivation? It's time for me to hit the reset button on my weight loss. I have sort of fallen off the wagon the past week month months and I would like to be proactive in getting right back on--for good!

Seems like I did much better when I had motivators in past. But seeing how I met those and they have passed, I seem to be lacking the drive and motivation now.

For the time being, here are my main motivators:

1. Get back to being comfortable in the new clothes I bought for the summer
2. Size 6 (least 8) Jeans for fall/winter
3. Running a 5K in November.
4. Flexibility.
5. Normal BMI
6. Get rid of the stubborn stomach fat
